Engineered Wood Flooring

What does engineered wood flooring mean?

What does engineered wood flooring mean and is it the same thing as regular wood flooring?

Engineered wood flooring is a manmade flooring constructed with both hardwood and plywood. This is different from regular wood flooring — which does not contain plywood.

However, even though the two types of flooring are different from each other, engineered wood flooring offers very similar benefits (and some would argue more benefits).

Let’s dissect engineered wood flooring.

How long does engineered wood flooring last?

There are different thicknesses of engineered wood flooring. The thicker it is, the longer it will last. Keep in mind, however, you’ll likely be paying more for thicker engineered wood flooring.

Since engineered wood flooring is constructed with multiple layers of hardwood and plywood, it can be very durable and last decades. On top of this, engineered wood flooring typically comes with a protective top layer — which protects it from water and moisture.

This protective layer can also reduce scratches. And if engineered wood flooring does get a small scratch on the surface, it can be easily buffed out by yourself from home.

Is engineered wood flooring more expensive?

Although engineered wood flooring is more expensive than carpet and laminate, it is normally cheaper than real hardwood flooring. However, you will not get any less value out of the flooring. In fact, many would argue that engineered wood flooring lasts longer and looks just as good as real hardwood flooring.

Is engineered wood flooring thick or thin?

Engineered wood flooring can come in a variety of thicknesses, and you can even find it in the same thickness as traditional hardwood flooring. If you’re looking for thick, durable engineered wood flooring, you can shoot for a brand that offers ¾” thickness.
